UK's Rushmoor newest Dayton Sister City

The City of Dayton welcomed the United Kingdom’s Borough of Rushmoor as its newest Dayton Sister City Saturday, June 22, in a ceremony at the Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger.
Dayton City Commissioner Matt Joseph and Rushmoor Borough Council Leader David Clifford signed the agreement.

“I was very pleased with the visit from the representatives of the Borough of Rushmoor,” Joseph said via email. “It is very clear that our cities have much in common, and I think that the potential for future cooperation in a number of areas is great, especially regarding aerospace. I am excited to see where this goes!”

Rushmoor was formed in 1974 by the merger of the Borough of Aldershot and the Farnborough Urban District Council. It has a population of about 95,800. The Borough took its name from Rushmoor Arena, a military show ground constructed in 1923. It includes the towns of Aldershot and Farnborough and is home to the Farnborough International Airshow.
“We love Dayton and the way you have beautifully presented to the public your aviation heritage. It is a real inspiration for us here,” Clifford said via email.
The agreement was an outcome of a relationship that developed between the National Aviation Heritage Area, the Wright family, the Borough of Rushmoor and the Dayton Sister City Committee.
The Dayton City Commission created the Dayton Sister City Committee in 1964. The city commission and city government appoint the committee members. All Activities undertaken on behalf of the Dayton Sister City Committee are done on a volunteer basis. The committee’s mission is to provide community leadership to promote Dayton internationally and increase global awareness of its residents through developing and maintaining active Sister City relationships.
The Dayton Sister City Committee is a member of Sister Cities International. In addition to Rushmoor, Dayton has Sister Cities relationships with Augsburg, Germany; Holon, Israel; Monrovia, Liberia; Oiso, Japan; and Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
