NAHA supports National Museum's Family Fun Day

DAYTON—The National Aviation Heritage Area will support the National Aviation Hall of Fame and the National Museum of the United States Air Force at a Science, Discovery and Family Fun Day on Sunday, Jan. 13.
Ohio Governor-Elect Mike DeWine and his wife Fran will join Maj. Gen. William Cooley, Air Force Research Laboratory Commander, at the event. Running from 1 to 4 p.m., it will be free and open to the public. It will feature interactive science and technology displays and demonstrations, musical performances and more.
The National Aviation Hall of Fame, co-located with the National Museum, is partnering with National Aviation Heritage Area partners Air Camp, Champaign Aviation Museum and Aviation Trail Inc.’s Parachute Museum to have STEM related activities for children of all ages in the Hall of Fame’s Learning Center. The Hall of Fame is also partnering with the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) to provide STEM activities.
Scheduled events for Family Fun Day include opening remarks at 1 p.m.; demonstrations and displays beginning at 1:20 p.m.; performances by the Air Force Band of Flight at 1:45 p.m.; the All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir at 2:30 p.m., and an interactive animal encounter presented by the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium at 3 p.m.
Scheduled STEM demonstrations include robotics, virtual reality, flight simulation, wind tunnel, rocketry, optics, fuel cells, engineering structures and scanning electron microscopes. In addition, free virtual reality and simulator rides will be available throughout the day and t-shirts will be launched by a robot to families in attendance.
Additional organizations participating in Family Fun Day include the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force Education Division; Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Educational Outreach Office; Air Force Research Laboratory; Air Force Museum Foundation; Ohio State University; University of Dayton Research Institute; Wright State University; Youngstown State University, and Clark State Community College.
