Woodland Cemetery & Arboretum
Founded in 1841.
Woodland Cemetery is one of the nation’s oldest rural garden cemeteries and a unique cultural, botanical and educational resource.
The Arboretum has been accredited as a Level II Arboretum by The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and is recognized as an accredited arboretum in the Morton Register of Arboreta, a database of the world’s arboreta and gardens dedicated to woody plants.
Thousands tour the grounds each year to visit the grave sites of Wilbur and Orville Wright and other members of the Wright family, poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, Governor James M. Cox, writer Erma Bombeck, inventor Charles F. Kettering and entrepreneurs John H. Patterson (NCR), George P. Huffman (Huffy Bicycles), George Mead (Mead Paper) and Preserved Smith (Barney & Smith Mfg. Co.), and the other 109,000 souls resting peacefully at Woodland.
Enjoy unique tours throughout the year such as a bird watching tour and the History, Mystery, Murder and Mayhem Tour. Woodland Cemetery is designated as a Historic District and has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior.
