Where history takes flight again.
Step inside a working hangar where vintage aircraft are brought back to life through expert craftsmanship and a deep respect for aviation history at the Mid America Flight Restoration Hangar in Urbana, Ohio.
Located at Grimes Field, this facility is the northern extension of the Mid America Flight Museum, dedicated solely to the restoration of historic aircraft. While it’s not open to the general public like a traditional museum, the hangar offers a hands-on space for passionate volunteers and aviation enthusiasts to help preserve and restore rare aircraft, returning them to flight rather than static display.
Completed in 2021, the restoration of the 1929 Travel Air 6000 marked a major milestone for the Urbana team, and restoration work continues today on additional aircraft. Guided by a mission to honor veterans, inspire youth, and safeguard aviation history, the hangar operates with a spirit of teamwork and dedication that fuels every project.
Part of the larger Mid America Flight Museum based in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, the Urbana restoration hangar plays a vital role in keeping history alive, one flying aircraft at a time.
