Explore Aviation & Aerospace History.
Celebrate the accomplishments of the first man to walk on the moon.
Located just off I-75 in Wapakoneta, Ohio, the Armstrong Air & Space Museum honors hometown hero Neil Armstrong, fellow Ohio-born astronauts, and the pioneers who made air and space travel possible.
Inside this two-level museum, you’ll find an impressive collection of displays and artifacts from the life and career of Apollo 11 commander Neil Alden Armstrong. Highlights include the Gemini and Apollo spacesuits he used while at NASA, along with a moon rock collected by Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin during the first lunar landing in July 1969. The museum also features a portrait wall of all 26 Ohio astronauts, as well as artifacts from America’s Space Shuttle program.
Don’t miss the Gemini 8 spacecraft, which Armstrong piloted with David Scott in 1966 on the world’s first space-docking mission. You’ll also see the 1946 Aeronca 7AC Champion, the airplane Armstrong received his pilot license at the age of 16. For a truly immersive experience, step into the Astro Theater for a multimedia journey that brings the sights and sounds of space travel to life. Then, test your skills in the space shuttle landing simulator or the lunar landing simulator to see if you have the “right stuff.”
A visit to the Armstrong Air & Space Museum offers more than history, it provides a deeper appreciation for Neil Armstrong and all the men and women who dared to push beyond the boundaries of Earth and make space travel a reality.
