On September 9, 2019 the Wright Company Factory was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Following the guidance of local and national advocates from aviation legends such as Patty Wagstaff, Erik Lindbergh, and David McCullough; to legislative advocates such as Congressman Mike Turner, Dayton\u2019s newest National Park Site has become officially recognized as nationally significant to America\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

Wilbur Wright (1867-1912) and his brother Orville (1871-1948) built their first experimental airplanes in the back of their bicycle shop at 1127 W. Third St. They formed the Wright Company in November 1909. The Wright Company produced approximately 120 airplanes in 13 different models and introduced industrial aviation.<\/p>\n

The City of Dayton purchased the Wright Company Factory in October 2018. Today, the City of Dayton, National Park Service (Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park), and National Aviation Heritage Area are working together towards to bold new vision for the site that will include historic interpretation and new innovative uses for the west Dayton site. Additional partners include Dayton Metro Library.<\/p>\n
